A Little Bit About a Lot of Things

A lifestyle blog with a focus on my food adventures

This was my first time at the SoWa market this season, the last market of the year-the market of the living dead. The market has moved to 460 Harrison Avenue in the South end. The market is held on Sundays from mid May to the end of October, 10am-4pm. Vendors come and sell their handmade goods (t-shirts, cards, jewelry, stuffed animals, hats etc.), their home made goodies (brownies, spreads, cheese, granola etc.), and their produce (at the Farmers Market next door at 500 Harrison Ave). They also have a holiday market at 75 Union Park Street in the gym of the Cathedral High School (this year, its happening on December 11th and 12th).

This year, their 7th season, they had food trucks at the market. Some of the choices this time at the market were Silk Road BBQ (see above) check out the website for their location when they aren’t at SoWa (down by Rowes Wharf) and their menu,

South End Pita (see above) has a cart that is normally located on the corner of Franklin and Washington in Downtown Crossing (or go to their restaurant at 473 Albany Strert). We didn’t eat there, but it looked good!

We did stop at the cupcakory, a mobile cupcake truck. Check them out on Facebook or follow them on Twitter (@cupcakory).

We had the salted caramel on chocolate. The chocolate cake was super tasty and moist. The frosting was a little too dense for my liking but the cake more than made up for that!

We also had the raspberry on gold cake (affectionately called “cat brains” by the man in the cart). The cake was a little bit drier than the chocolate cake-but we loved the raspberry frosting-much lighter. I would have loved the raspberry on the chocolate cupcake-that would have been a winning cupcake for me.

We stopped at Food Truck Nation for a grilled cheese sandwich, a “Boston Common” made with cheddar cheese on Iggy’s pain de mie bread (see below). It might not look like much, but it was really tasty. It’s funny how a simple sandwich of just bread and cheese can be so good-but use great ingredients and you get a great meal. The cheese was really good-sharp with a bite to it. Iggy’s bread speaks for itself!

They had other choices such as In Gouda We Trust (smoked gouda, mushrooms, caramelized onions, on Iggy’s organic dark rye) and Brie Me Up (brie, local Asian pear, Iggy’s organic wheat pain de mie). They said that Will Gilson from Garden at the Cellar will be the next one to roll out a food truck, can’t wait for that to happen!!

Another food truck in attendance (that we didn’t get a chance to try, bummer!) was Clover Food Truck Now that the SoWa is closed for the season, visit them at their other locations:
