A Little Bit About a Lot of Things

A lifestyle blog with a focus on my food adventures

This Jewish style deli is named after a word that loosely means ‘pleasantly plump’. Zaftigs is certainly not the place for those who are counting their calories.

Is there anywhere that you would go to eat that you think is worth waiting in line for an hour? People certainly think that Zaftigs is that place.

Is that the case or is it lack of other options? Coolidge Corner Clubhouse has a brunch, probably getting all the people who didn’t want to wait in line at Zaftigs, and you can grab a snack at Panera…but where else can you get a sit down breakfast in the area??

In the summer time people wait in lines around the block to have breakfast here, which is served all day by the way. I recommend going at non peak times, as in-right when they open or 2pm (and even then it will probably still be crowded).

Inside they have a counter, booths and tables. There are always lots of young families here-probably because it’s right next to the Devotion School and playground.

Their slogan is ‘let us be your Jewish mother’, that being said, how can you go wrong with a cup of matzo ball soup and a brisket sandwich?

I had the banana stuffed french toast (in a bourbon-vanilla batter with date butter and berries)-a must try if you come for breakfast. Well, either that or the chocolate french toast (Chef Lisa’s chocolate brioche, battered and grilled, raspberry sauce) both priced at $9.95. I know what you are thinking, a little pricey for french toast. Let me assure you that the french toast is like a brick-it probably weighs 5lbs. There are a ton of bananas-you just have to try it…I mean come on, you can get eggs or pancakes anywhere…try something new.

So come to Zaftigs, be prepared to wait and be pleasantly surprised if you don’t have to!
